Dogtooth (2009)

I almost have no words for this movie.  For real. This was nominated this year for an Oscar for Best Foreign Film. (Greece) I can't say I recommend this, because for sure....its not for everybody.  It was strange, creepy, uncomfortably amusing a few times.  The story is about three older (can't really tell how old) teenage kids who live and are schooled (in the loosest terms) at home. They are beyond isolated.  The parents even make up wrong words for things like a salt shaker is a "phone".  At the same time, I found it so interesting that I couldn't stop watching. It is offensive and awful and fresh and wonderful all at the same time.  I don't even really know what to say. Its not for the faint of heart. At. All.  There is nudity, incest, violence to small animals.  The camera work bothered me from time to time, but I can't tell if that was because I was watching on my tiny TV in my room, but often the heads of the people were cut off and you only saw from the neck down. I get the impression it was on purpose, but I am not artsy enough for that not to annoy me a little bit.  I am interested to see the other Foreign Film nominees, because I was sort of surprised this got nominated just because of its bizarreness (is that even a word??) but at the same time. It was unlike anything I have ever seen in my life!
