Lymelife (2008)

This has been in my queue for quite some time now, I just wasn't motivated to watch it.  Sometimes I can stomach Alec Baldwin, and other times he makes my skin crawl.  I used to be a big fan, but over the years, his off screen personality (if we can call it that) has sort of turned me off.  I find him amusing in 30 Rock, but in movies, I can usually do without him.  I did, however, put this in my queue because I do really like Kieran Culkin.  I think he is underused and under-appreciated.  The standout performance in this movie however, is from his brother, the adorable Rory Culkin.  Okay, so this movie is based in the late 1970s and really doesn't come across as an awkward 70's period movies (as some films tend to do).  This movie is at its base, about two different crumbling marriages, and the lives of those around them. I thought this movie was very well done. It felt very real to me, all the arguments and sexual tension were very honest and completely believable. I loved the symbolism. I thought all of the performances were awesome (with one borderline exception...I am not the biggest Emma Roberts fan, I think she is beautiful, but a pretty basic actress, at least from what I have seen from her so far) For a small budgeted independent movie, this one didn't feel small at all. I thought it was great.
