"I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving, hysterical naked..." Wow. I really loved this movie. I should say up front, I am a fan of Allen Ginsberg. I have always been interested in that time period, and Howl. I think one summer I read "On the Road" 5 times and couldn't get Jack Kerouac out of my head. I have waited so long for a movie to be made that made me feel the way I felt the year I discovered the Beat Generation writers. To see the words come to life on film with such incredible animation. This was done so well, I don't even know what to say about it. James Franco played Ginsberg brilliantly, I really am starting to find him interesting to watch and can't wait to see what he does next. I loved the way this movie switched back and forth, from scenes from the obscenity trial, Ginsberg doing a reading of Howl, along with snippets of interviews with Ginsberg about the trial, and the poem. But my favorite part, the part that sucked me in and made me want to buy this movie....were the animation sequences. I almost wish that they would have done the poem in its entirety with this awesome animation. The imagery was perfect for me, and it made me want to dig out my old books and read instead of watching any more movies tonight. I could go on and on about how much I loved this, but it will just come off sounding sappy and I can't really get the words out. Loved it. That is all.
